TikTok just shared some exciting news about its "Topic Management" feature, which first kicked off as a experiment in the U.S. last year. Now it's going global! This feature lets you pick how often you see posts from the top 10 categories on your "For You" page, like sports, travel, comedy, arts, and dance. Jessica Allen, a spokesperson for TikTok, told The Verge that everyone around the world can now use it.
TikTok says that with the "Topic Management" settings, you won't completely get rid of categories but will instead see them less over time as your interests change. They also mentioned that it might take a bit for these changes to kick in and that it only affects what shows up on your "For You" page—not anywhere else on the app.
If you want to tweak your settings, just go to "Settings," hit "Content Preferences," and then select "Manage Topics." You can also find it by tapping the "Share" button on a video in your "For You" feed, clicking on "Why this video?", and then heading to "Edit your topics" followed by "Manage Topics." From there, you can slide the bar under each category to control how often you want to see videos related to that topic and then hit "Save."
Plus, TikTok is rolling out some new keyword filters to help you block certain content from your feed. They’re using AI for what they call "Smart Keyword Filters," so not only can you block specific words, but it’ll also filter out any related content or comments that pop up.
You'll also be able to see the blocked keywords and make changes easily. And pretty soon, you’ll be able to customize up to 200 keywords, which is a nice bump from the previous limit of 100.
