They’ve already been using drones for deliveries, and now they want to see how humanoid robots can drop off packages at people's homes directly. Right now, they’re almost done setting up an obstacle course in San Francisco to help test this technology.
However, it's still unclear when these robots will actually start working in real delivery situations, as reported by The Information. While Amazon has been showing off its robotics efforts in homes and warehouses, this is the first real push to use humanoid robots for delivering packages, which could mean a change for human workers.
These robots will use some of the same AI tech Amazon already uses in other parts of the business. Along with delivery bots, Amazon is also looking into humanoid robots for their warehouses, as reported by Reuters.
The company has tons of job openings focused on robotics in places like the US, Canada, Germany, and Luxembourg.
Once Amazon’s humanoid delivery robots are good to go, they’re expected to combine traditional delivery with trucks and staff, use drones to beat traffic and reach hard-to-get areas, and robots for some specific deliveries.
